Experiential learning is integrated into the MSTC major through hands-on projects and undergraduate research opportunities. By analyzing real-world materials and performing cutting-edge materials science research alongside UO faculty, MSTC majors pick up valuable skills in programming, data science, materials design, and engineering that equip them for the demands of the modern technological workforce.

Get Involved in Research
Research is an integral part of the Materials Science and Technology program. Our foundational courses will prepare you to conduct your own research within one of the many faculty labs conducting research at the forefront of materials science on campus.
Your work could be featured in UO’s Undergraduate Research Symposium, in conferences around the world, and even in leading peer-reviewed journals. In addition, all MSTC majors will receive dedicated mentoring towards finding research opportunities at UO, at other universities, and/or in industry.

Apply Your Skills
Internships provide the opportunity to practice your skills in a real-world environment while gaining work experience that will give you a competitive edge in the job market. Find an internship with one of our many industry partners in the US or practice your skills abroad.
