Fellowships and Awards

In addition to teaching fellowships, the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry also offers the following awards and research fellowships for PhD students.

Graduate Student Award for Excellence in the Teaching of Chemistry

Graduate Student Teaching Award winners are nominated by the faculty with whom they have worked during the past academic year. There are typically six recipients each year. This honor acknowledges the grad students’ important contributions to the instructional mission of the Department, as each of the recipients greatly exceeded the normal expectations of a TA.

Award: The award is typically $500.

Graduate Student Community Builder Award

The intent of this award is to recognize a graduate student for their exceptional contributions to building an inclusive, supportive, collaborative, and respectful environment within our Department.

Award: Recipients receive a $500 award

Previous Awardees

Rosaria Haugland Graduate Research Fellowship

The Rosaria Haugland Graduate Research Fellowship is a three-year, full graduate fellowship and tuition award presented every three years to an outstanding graduate student in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. The award is used to support and recognize individuals from groups that have not traditionally participated in the sciences, and for whom the award will provide significant support. The department head handles the awarding of this fellowship.

Award: Full graduate fellowship and tuition for three years

John Keana Graduate Research fellowship

The John Keana Graduate Research Fellowship is offered annually to an outstanding graduate student in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. The awardees are designated John Keana Graduate Fellows and the award consists of fellowship and tuition support.
