Our rigorous physics program hinges on experiential learning through research conducted in a variety of laboratories across the UO campus. Beginning as early as freshman year, students participate in cutting-edge research alongside our faculty. By developing practical skills through real-world experience, our graduates gain a competitive advantage and emerge from the program well-prepared for science-related careers.
Get Involved in Research
Whenever possible, physics students are encouraged to participate in vigorous faculty research programs. From observing the cosmos at Pine Mountain Observatory to designing their own experiments in the Advanced Projects Lab, the department offers ample opportunities to conduct their own research.
Apply Your Skills
Gain research or teaching experience through the Knight Campus Internship or UO Science Literacy programs. Connect with your peers in the Department of Physics through student groups such as the UO Society of Physics Students.
Travel and Study Around the World
Enhance your academic experience and complement your physics major by studying the natural sciences and conducting research in another part of the world.
