COMPUTER SCIENCE, MATHEMATICS, PSYCHOLOGY - Success at the University of Oregon looks different for each student, from academic achievement to personal growth to career readiness.
MATHEMATICS - KEZI featured the fifth annual Eugene Youth Math Festival at McArthur Court. “Our goal is to inspire kids to learn more math by presenting them with a lot of different math-related activities, games, and experiments and see the beauty of it,” said Maria Nemirovskaya of the Department of Mathematics. “It's not just number crunching but that there's a lot behind actual math.”
MATHEMATICS - Children in the Eugene-Springfield area will have the opportunity to explore games, problem-solving activities, crafts and other hands-on math activities at the Eugene Youth Math Festival in McArthur Court Saturday, Feb. 24, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
MATHEMATICS - Professor Emeritus Gary Seitz passed away on Oct. 30, 2023. For 35 years, Seitz was a faculty member of the Department of Mathematics, serving as the department head at times and later as associate dean of the Division of Natural Sciences and publishing research.
MATHEMATICS - Professor Victor Ostrik received the 2024 Chevalley Prize in Lie Theory, awarded by the American Mathematical Society. The citation for this year's prize acknowledges Ostrik "for his fundamental contributions to the theory of tensor categories, which have already found deep applications in modular representation theory and Lie theory."
MATHEMATICS - University of Oregon undergrad Abby Lewis published a children’s book titled The Forest of Numbers in early June that introduces elementary school-aged students to mathematical concepts.

MATHEMATICS, PHYSICS - The University of Oregon will host two STEM-forward events Feb. 25: the Eugene Youth Math Festival and the Central Western Oregon Science Expo, both spearheaded by College of Arts and Sciences faculty members.
Seven faculty members have been recognized for their exceptional teaching with the 2022 Distinguished Teaching Awards. Recipients of the University of Oregon annual awards are tia north, Katie Lynch, Keli Yerian, Michael Aronson, Lara Bovilsky, David Steinberg and Tina Starr.
